Flagship of the multi-restaurant Table 301 group that includes Nose Dive and The Lazy Goat, Soby’s New South Cuisine is the place to see and be seen. Centrally located on Greenville’s Main Street just across from the Westin Poinsett, it’s in the heart of downtown. Laid back, yet, upscale, it offers Southern fare with a decidedly worldly flair.DSCF3010

Warm and inviting, the bar is the ideal spot to begin a special evening. When moderate temperatures prevail, the three double glass doors facing Main Street are open for a cafe feel. The world-class bar staff pours an eclectic mix of potables made with high-end brands. Perhaps the most extensive wine list in Greenville lives at Soby’s. Whites range from $22 to $745; while Reds start at $38 and go to $5,000. A number of wines are offered by the glass from $7 to $15.

There’s no beer on tap, but the selection of bottled beer is surprisingly decent. So, whether kicking off dinner or relaxing with friends, Soby’s bar is a popular gathering spot.

When possible, Soby’s chefs prepare the menu selections using fresh ingredients sourced locally. Even items you think you know are created with Soby’s unique Southern flair.

S0166270The Fried Green Tomatoes on the app menu is outstanding, as is the Biscuits & Ham. Apps run in price from $5 for Olives & Almonds to $12 for Roasted Marrrow Bones. Upcountry Shrimp and Grits $24, Bacon-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin $23, and the Crab Cakes $26, are entree favorites. This isn’t some piddly where’s-the-beef house of small portions, but genuinely generous amounts of food. Entree prices range from $18 for Southern Vegetables to $31 for the Grilled Filet Mignon. The attentive serving staff will happily help with selections and matching them to wines.

Sundays are all about brunch, and Soby’s buffet-style brunch offers a wide range of pastries, salads, breakfast treats and a carving station. The hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Check out the $3.01 Bloody Mary and Mimosa menu.

Able to easily accommodate larger parties, Soby’s is popular for groups and smaller corporate events. It offers indoor and outdoor seating. It’s second floor mezzanine with its own bar overlooks the kitchen, and is ideal for a private gathering. It’s “Loft” over the Soby’s on the Side lunchtime spot not only offers a roof garden and large indoor lounge area, but also a huge kitchen and suite for overnight stays. For a really special evening, smaller parties book the ultra-private wine cellar.

You can’t really say you’ve visited Greenville without stopping into Soby’s.
