The Westin Poinsett

120 South Main Street
Greenville, SC 29601

Greenville’s longest-running downtown hotel, the Westin Poinsett mixes a bit of history with a healthy dose of comfort.

Location, location, location is everything, right? In the case of The Westin Poinsett, location is just one of several good reasons to DSCF2015make it ground zero for a Greenville adventure. Centrally located, it is within walking distance of just about every downtown attraction, and roughly 25 minutes from Greenville-Spartanburg Airport. Six or seven of the city’s best restaurants are within a five-minute stroll of the front door, as is the Peace Center and Falls Park on the Reedy River.

If it looks familiar, it may be because George Clooney rode his motorcycle up to its front door in the early-days-of-pro-football film “Leatherheads.” It’s a great place to get a little taste of Greenville history with a heaping helping of hospitality. In fact, it’s a member of the Historic Hotels of America.

Originally opened in 1925, the Westin Poinsett passed through several iterations and a major expansion before reopening in its current, fully-renovated version in 2000.

Loaded with personality, its lobby floor with its Spoonbread Restaurant and cozy Piano Bar lounge is a terrific spot to relax and meet friends. Big comfy chairs arranged around small tables are tastefully scattered around the area. The lighting is subdued and the noise level remarkably low.

Several of Greenville’s more popular restaurants are nearby: Soby’s, for example, is across the street and Nose Dive is next door.

Offering 200 suites and guest rooms, Westin Poinsett is capable of hosting meetings, groups and weddings, as well as families on a weekend visit. Room prices run from about $180 to $270 per night.DSCF2014
